Technology Specialist in Fluorescence Microscopy

IN-MOL-CELL at the IIMCB is a comprehensive, integrated research infrastructure comprising currently 7 specialized Core Facilities. Its main goal is to support innovative biomedical research by providing access to unique technologies and multidisciplinary services, enabling the development of new therapeutic and diagnostic methods. The IIMCB hosts a vibrant, multinational community of scientists and is well-connected internationally, as exemplified by the IIMCB's membership in EU-LIFE (https://eu-life.eu), an alliance of 15 top European research institutions. Through the investment of over 16 million euros into equipment and planned expansion to eventually support 20 research groups, we aim to become a unique Polish center where excellent science benefits from state-of-the-art technologies and services provided by core facilities. To this end, the IIMCB is establishing institutional support for the development of current and the creation of new core facilities.

The Microscopy Facility at IN-MOL-CELL was established in 2021 with the mission of providing high-end services to both internal and external users, specializing in fluorescence microscopy, electron microscopy, and flow cytometry. We have recently acquired cutting-edge equipment, including the Thermo Fisher Scientific Hydra Bio Plasma-FIB scanning electron microscope, the Zeiss LSM990 confocal and Elyra 7 super-resolution imaging systems, the Evident spinSR10 spinning-disk microscope, and the Miltenyi Blaze lightsheet microscope. We are currently seeking a Technology Specialist in Fluorescence Microscopy. The person hired for this role will become the member of the Microscopy Facility of the IN-MOL-CELL research infrastructure located at 4 Trojdena Street in Warsaw, Poland.

The deadline for applications is January 31st, 2026. The proposed start date of employment is March 1st, 2026 (flexible).

Key responsibilities:

  • Supervise state-of-the-art fluorescence microscopes (confocal, spinning-disk, high content screening), including performing regular maintenance and quality tests
  • Train new users on microscope operation and assist with image acquisition
  • Help users with image processing and analysis, including high-content analytical pipelines
  • Coordinate data storage and transfer processes
  • Provide basic support to users with fluorescence cytometers and sorters

Requirements:

  • Hold a MSc degree in biology, biotechnology, or related fields
  • Good understanding of molecular and cell biology
  • At least basic experience in light microscopy and image processing
  • Good command of computers and ability to write simple scripts
  • Openness to learning new methods and tools
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Fluent English proficiency, enabling work in an international environment

Nice to have:

  • Programming skills in Python or Matlab
  • Substantial experience in image analysis and good knowledge of microscopy image analysis and rendering software

We offer:

  • Full employment contract initially for 6 months, with the possibility to extend to an open-ended contract
  • Salary of 6000-8000 PLN gross/month, depending on the experience
  • Full-time salary is complemented by an additional 13th salary plus an annual bonus
