The Biophysics and Bioanalytic Facility of the International Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology in Warsaw is looking for a SPECIALIST/SENIOR SPECIALIST responsible for the maintaining, and troubleshooting the electron microscope

The Biophysics and Bioanalytic Facility is one of the Core Facilities of the International Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology.  The Laboratories play an integral role in the Institute's research infrastructure, providing access to state-of-the-art equipment facilities and services to support the daily work of scientists from both the Institute and external entities. A new 200 kV class electron cryomicroscope (cryo-EM) for visualization of biological samples is planned for purchase in the near future. The person hired will join the team and will be responsible for operating the new electron microscope, as well as contact with users requesting analysis and preparation (vitrification) of samples.

The hired person will be responsible for:

- maintaining, and troubleshooting the electron microscope in cooperation with other employees and external service

- accepting orders for sample preparation from users

- preparation (vitrification) of biological samples for cryo-EM analysis, maintaining high working standards

- analyzing prepared samples under an electron cryomicroscope and recording data sets

- preparation of reports from performed analyses

- training new users in the basics of microscope operation

- maintaining databases of prepared, imaged, and stored samples

- accounting for the cost of analysis

 

Requirements

- education: higher master's degree, preferred majors: physics, biology or related

- experience in imaging samples using electron microscopes, experience with cryo-EM microscope operation will be an asset

- good eye-hand coordination necessary when working with cryo-TEM samples

- ability to prepare and work with cryo-TEM biological samples is welcomed

- reliability, meticulousness, accuracy and punctuality in completing tasks,

- English language skills to communicate freely in an international environment

- very good written and oral communication,

- very good organization of work, ability to set priorities,

- ability to think analytically and strategically,

- ability to work under time pressure,

- independence, commitment and initiative in action,

- high personal culture

We offer:

  1. Full-time employment contract, initially for a period of 6 months with the possibility of extension. 
  2. Competitive salary in the amount of 6800-9200  PLN gross/month.
  3. Attractive benefits package including subsidization for MultiSport card and medical insurance.
  4. Full-time salary is complemented by an additional 13th salary plus an annual bonus
  5. Additional paid vacation time (up to 10 extra days) starting from the 2nd year of employment
  6. Full technical, administrative, and organizational support in Polish and English from professional staff.
  7. Opportunity to participate in courses, conferences, scientific training, and substantive support from colleagues.

Selection criteria for core facilities positions:

1. Technical skills needed for the position and interest in methodological approaches.

2. Education or professional experience relevant to the position.

3. Communicative command of English.

4. Soft skills: communication skills, ability for effective teamwork, likelihood to fit an add value to the group, effective work organization.
