Recruitment for the project "RNA Platform and Cell Biology for Research and Innovation in Medicine (RACE-PRIME)" (contract no. FENG.02.01-IP.05-T003/23) implemented under the International Research Agenda, financed by the European Funds for Modern Economy, for the position of  Senior postdoctoral researcher to conduct research in the RNA field under the supervision of Prof. Gracjan Michlewski in the RNA-Protein Interactions Laboratory - Dioscuri Centre, at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (IIMCB).

The aim of RACE-PRIME is to establish IIMCB as a world-class Center of Excellence in RNA and Cell Biology. The goal of RACE-PRIME is to translate basic research findings, e.g., for developing new therapies, diagnostic methods, discovering new therapeutic targets, or identifying molecules with desired properties to be developed into drugs.

Project area description: RNA viruses such as influenza and SARS-CoV-2 are recognized by host proteins that bind RNA. Some of these interactions are essential for virus replication and function. The main objective of the project is the selection and study of small molecules that could impact the interactions between viral RNA and host proteins, potentially applicable in broad-spectrum antiviral drug development. Research will include testing known inhibitors, libraries of natural compounds, and FDA-approved drugs to explore new therapeutic opportunities.

Position description: The senior researcher will be responsible for working with viruses (BSL-2), characterizing the functional properties of small molecules in cell as well as molecular studies of their interactions.

Requirements:

1. Ph.D. in biological sciences or related field.
2. A minimum of 5 years of experience in research and development. At the same time, the period of 5 years is counted from the year of obtaining the doctoral degree.
3. Solid knowledge and documented laboratory experience in virology and cell biology.
4. Experience in molecular biology methods will be an additional asset.
5. Independence, commitment, initiative, teamwork skills.
6. Proficient in spoken and written English.
7. Ability to write and edit publications in English.
8. Ability to present results (experience presenting at least one international conference is desirable).
9. Scientific track record documented by publications in international journals.

Selection criteria:

1. Technical competencies, experience, and alignment of specialized knowledge with the position.
2. Scientific achievements - publications, awards, grants, etc.
3. Soft skills - proficiency in English, motivation letter, communication skills, teamwork ability, alignment of individual development plans with project goals.

1. Full-time employment contract, initially for a period of 6 months with the possibility of extension.
