Senior Scientist / Scientist – In Vivo Neuropharmacology

JOB PURPOSE:

We have an opportunity for a motivated and pro-active scientist with expertise in in vivo animal models, to join our expanding team based at our new Polish facility at University of Warmia & Mazury in Olsztyn.

This lab-based role will be to develop and execute relevant disease in vivo models to generate robust pharmacological and disease relevant biological data for preclinical research studies for our client biotech or pharma companies.

POSITION LOCATION:

University of Warmia & Mazury in Olsztyn, Poland

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Planning, design and hands-on execution of in vivo preclinical studies
• Generating high-quality protocols/study plans and carrying out client study requests within agreed timelines, including delivery of more than one agreed area of work in parallel where appropriate.
• Development and characterisation of new models to support project advancement as necessary
• Generating and maintaining clear experimental records
• Providing expert interpretation of the data, identifying innovative ideas and solutions to problems and putting forward plans for further experiments
• Critically summarising and presenting experimental data and key findings
• Maintaining an awareness of current developments in the literature to support projects
• Scientific development through internal presentations at departmental meetings; and external scientific visibility through poster & oral conference presentations and authorship on peer-reviewed publications
• Be an effective, collaborative hands-on member of the in vivo team, contributing to the overall work of the team as required
• Ensuring appropriate use of animals in compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal standards
• Ensuring all Standard Operating Procedures Health and Safety and regulatory requirements are adhered to
• Using best judgment to carry out work to the highest standard
• Taking on mentoring, supervisory and line management responsibilities as required

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Essential

• PhD in Neuroscience, Biotechnology, Pharmacology or a related discipline; or a similar BSc/MSc degree with significant relevant lab-based experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
• In vivo pharmacology experience, including rodent surgical, dosing and tissue sampling techniques
• PoILASA animal licence, experience with the ethical applications
• Expertise in neurobiology, neuropharmacology or neurodegeneration
• Expertise in the design, development and validation of preclinical studies for compound efficacy profiling and screening; including analysing data and report writing
• Excellent organisational, problem-solving and communication skills
• Ability to work well within a team, as well as independently and proactively
• Ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
• Highly motivated and ability to be flexible in case of changing priorities
