About the Project:

The International Centre for Cancer Vaccine Science (ICCVS) is an innovative new partnership between the University of Gdańsk and the University of Edinburgh addressing a major challenge in cancer medicine. The ICCVS based at the University of Gdańsk, supported by the Foundation for Polish Science, aims to create a world-leading research cluster in the discovery, characterization and translation of molecular mechanisms in cancer immunological science. The successful applicant will be co-supervised by Professors Dave Goodlett, Ted Hupp, and Dr Irena Dapic and work on projects related to vaccine adjuvant production using mass spectrometry.

The project is carried out within the International Research Agenda Programme of the Foundation for Polish Science and funded from the funds of the European Regional Development Fund under the Smart Growth Operational Programme, Priority Axis 4: Increasing the research potential, Measure 4.3: International Research Agendas.

Key responsibilities:

The successful applicant is expected to apply and develop a range of methodologies that can accelerate the bio-production and optimization of the enzymatic synthesis of vaccine adjuvants including the use of model organisms, gene synthesis platforms and mass spectrometry to measure intermediate and products in chemical reactions.

The project is carried out within the International Research Agenda Programme of the Foundation for Polish Science and funded from the funds of the European Regional Development Fund under the Smart Growth Operational Programme, Priority Axis 4: Increasing the research potential, Measure 4.3: International Research Agendas.

Benefits

  1. The ICCVS is housed in brand new state-of-the-art facilities at the UG with facilities for mass spectrometry, virology, protein biochemistry, vaccine technology and bioinformatics.
  2. ICCVS researchers will have joint supervision with scientists at the University of Edinburgh, within strategic platforms for stem cell science, phenotypic drug screening, synthetic biology, computational science, structural biology, veterinary medicine, and optical imaging (www.optima-cdt.ac.uk)
  3. The ICCVS provides an exceptional opportunity for motivated PhD students to work in an international multidisciplinary training environment to tackle major challenges at the interface between basic cancer discovery science and translational medicine
  4. Stipend: 3500-4500 PLN/ month,
  5. Maximum period of contract/stipend agreement 3,5 years

Skills/Qualifications

Profile of candidate:

For this role, we seek a scientist willing to become fluent in the development of the methodologies for detection of the neoantigens and their selective isolation from the cells. We are looking for especially motivated candidates to apply mass spectrometry and chemical engineering into clinical samples with the aim to uncover peptide neoantigens that may serve as cancer vaccine targets.

Desired skills:

  • Previous education in biochemistry and/or chemistry
  • Experience in mass spectrometry and/or chemical engineering
  • Experience in biotechnology and/or biological manufacturing
  • Experience in biological samples analysis
