The International Institute of Molecular Mechanisms and Machines (IMol), Polish Academy of Sciences, was constituted in December 2020, in partnership with University Medical Center Göttingen, Germany.
IMol has been established to conduct scientific research and provide training in the fields of biological, chemical, medical, biotechnological, bioinformatics, biophysical, pharmacological, and similar sciences, in the international environment conducive to collaborative efforts, research and development interactions with biotechnological industry, and wide dissemination of our results.
We aim at the development of solutions that will help everyone on this planet live a safer life.

Remuneration/stipend amount/month:  3 500,00 – 4 000,00 PLN net/month; depends on experience.

Maximum period of contract/stipend agreement: 31st Oct 2022 with option for prolongation.

Project description: Segmented negative-strand RNA bunyaviruses remain in the cytoplasm where they perform both transcription and replication of their genetic material. Little is known about the direct interaction of bunyaviral proteins with cellular translation factors. The aim of this project is to characterize function and structure of the viral-host protein complexes involved in altering cellular host translation during infection. We are looking for a motivated PhD applicant, interested in learning cutting-edge structural biology techniques (cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography). Experience in purification and biochemical characterization of protein complexes would be an advantage.

Key responsibilities include:  

  • The IMol is looking for a highly motivated person to:
  • Perform experiments using biochemical, structural and molecular biology techniques (independently and in collaboration with other team members)
  • Participate in experimental design and data analysis
  • Participate in the data preparation and writing of manuscripts
  • Actively participate in lab meetings, scientific seminars and conferences

Profile of candidates/requirements:

  • MSc degree (or equivalent) in molecular biology, biophysics, biochemistry or related fields of life sciences (or perspective of obtaining one),
  • Solid knowledge and familiarity with laboratory techniques in at least one of the following disciplines: molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, transcriptomics,
  • Very good command of English,
  • Motivation and passion for experimental work.
