NCN PhD student and postdoc positions in the Laboratory of Genome Engineering
Dissecting DNA Maintenance Methylation in Mammals: Fidelity, Timing and Instructive Cues
The Laboratory of Genome Engineering at the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics (IBB) in Warsaw, headed by Matthias Bochtler, invites applications from young researchers for NCN funded PhD student and postdoc positions. PhD studentship applicants need to hold a master degree, and postdoc candidates must hold a PhD degree in natural sciences, obtained no earlier than October 1st, 2012.
The project is focused on the fidelity and timing of DNA methylation in mammalian cells, and on the contributions of various instructive cues influencing the process. The project aims to study the maintenance of DNA methylation at the single cell level, and to characterize its timing and fidelity, using DNA hairpin approaches. The project will also investigate the role of DNA demethylation in the maintenance of methylation fidelity, and test for the first time predictions of the currently prevalent model in cells (rather than only in vitro). The project is funded under the framework of the NCN SHENG scheme, and will be carried out in collaboration with Prof. Jiemin Weng, of East China Normal University in Shanghai (https://faculty.ecnu.edu.cn/s/1295/t/14783/main.jspy).
The ideal candidate should have laboratory experience in high throughput sequencing approaches, particularly using the Illumina and Nanopore platforms, and experience in bioinformatics. Experience with cell culture and programming skills are highly desirable, but not an absolute requirement. Monthly remuneration will be according to NCN rules.
Please forward your complete application including a CV, publication list, motivational letter, exam results, and the contact information for at least two referees to email@example.com with the subject line “SHENG”. Application deadline is September 1st 2019. Only selected candidates will be invited for an interview. Earliest possible start date for successful candidates is October 1st 2019, but later start dates can be negotiated.
Please include in your application the following statement: “In accordance with the personal data protection act from the 29th of August 1997, I hereby agree to process and to store my personal data by the Institution for recruitment purposes”.
