Clinical trials are a crucial element in pharmaceutical innovation. Without properly run and monitored clinical trials, new treatments for illnesses will never reach patients

The UK is a global leader in clinical trials; there is an understanding among healthcare professionals, patients, government and administrators that well-run trials offer a win-win-win solution – innovative treatment for patients, cost savings for the health service and increased scientific knowledge. In the UK, the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)is committed to promoting faster, easier clinical research through unified, streamlined and simple systems for managing ethical research and its outputs, as well as providing the facilities and people needed for a thriving research environment. The NIHR's campaign, OK to Ask, shows the value of communicating the benefits of clinical trials to patients, and offers a practical blueprint for health services in other countries.

Poland an important market for AstraZeneca, where it has invested significantly in an R&D hub. Improvements in the way clinical trials are perceived by the government, healthcare institutions and patients, will increase the effectiveness of its R&D operations in Poland.
