This series of symposia have become a scientific forum for experts to present and discuss their most recent results in the fields of basic mechanisms of gastrointestinal integrity, mucosal injury, protection, and ulcer healing. New concepts in the protective action of physiological factors and pharmacological agents, along with novel findings on the mechanisms, manifestations, diagnosis, and consequences of cell and tissue injury have been additional major themes of discussion in this forum. Moreover, approaches to translation into clinical medicine have been presented for both pharmacologic interventions to prevent or treat GI-tract disorders as well as novel advances in the pathomechanism of cell and tissue damage in organ systems. The symposium in Cracow will also include topics on inter-organ signaling in the mechanism of cell injury and various faces of protection including gastro-, pancreato-, hepato-, cardio-, and neuroprotection.
